Frequently Used Terms
*Note that these term descriptions are not MW definitions, but rather definitions developed through the work done in the industries for which these terms are used. These terms change and evolve just as language changes and evolves. As they change, we will update them. Additionally, this is not a comprehensive list of terms and should not be utilized as such, merely a guide to help facilitate understanding of content provided by Steady.
BIPOC – Black, Indigenous, and People of Color
BIR – Black, Indigenous, and Racialized Individuals
BJEDI – Belonging, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
ED&I – Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
IDE&A – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility
Cultural Humility – The conscious act of acknowledging your limitations regarding awareness of someone else’s culture. This can include but is not limited to their lifestyle, identity, or behaviors.
Cultural Responsiveness – The conscious act of responding to the cultural needs of others. In corporate settings, this means responding to the cultural needs of the workforce as identified by the workforce. In mental health settings this means responding to the cultural needs of the clients as identified by the client.
Cultural Awareness – The ability to understand someone else’s cultural beliefs, values, and behaviors, though different from yours, are not inherently “wrong”.

Mental Wellness
Faces of Health
The “Faces of Health” app teaches you skills that work, and are based on the science of our brains. You will gain access to knowledge and tools produced by decades of neuroscience research. Skills training available includes:
* Mindfulness Meditation for Stress Reduction
* Diaphragmatic Breathing for Vagal Toning (i.e., Vagus Nerve Stimulation)
* Windmill Breath, Alternate Nostril Breath, and Other Breathing Exercises for Focus or Relaxation
