The BeHERE Opioid Overdose Prevention Training Project at Health Resources in Action (HRiA) was thrilled to have Dr. Gabrielle Jones as an expert presenter and workshop facilitator at a service provider summit held virtually on June 28, 2022, and titled “Meeting Them Where They’re At: Harm Reduction and Positive Youth Development.
“Dr. Jones was tremendously professional and communicative throughout the planning process, providing exceptional materials to the planning team well in advance of the event.”
Dr. Gabrielle Jones has presented more than once on the topic of substance use for First 5 Alameda County. Most recently, she presented Introduction to Substance Use Treatment in Community Settings in February of 2022.
Dr. Jones is a joy to work with, professional, knowledgeable, and responsive to the needs of our attendees. We highly recommend Dr. Jones as a presenter.
“As the program developer for the continuing education program at Girls Incorporated of Alameda County, I was delighted to work with psychologist Gabrielle Jones. Dr. Jones is a gem. An excellent instructor, Dr. Jones is engaging, personable, and able to easily share her wealth of clinical experience and knowledge. Her authentic, creative presentations capture the attention of her audience and inspire a renewed feeling of hope regarding the possibility of psychotherapy. I feel confident bringing in Dr. Jones to provide continuing education trainings for both licensed and pre-licensed clinicians because her trainings are solidly grounded in current research and relevant clinical experience. In her work with our consortium, Dr. Jones provided several trainings focused on identifying and treating substance use disorders in adolescents, working with clients with co-occurring disorders, and engaging caregivers in their child’s treatment. These trainings enabled our clinicians to have a greater understanding of these disorders and to be more effective in their work with clients and families. Dr. Jones’ trainings through the Girls Inc. Community Mental Health Consortium were always very well attended and consistently received very positive evaluations. I really appreciated Dr. Jones’ flexibility and willingness to work with me to customize her trainings to meet the needs of our clinicians and the populations we serve. Attendees at Dr. Jones’ trainings consistently report that they came away from the training with valuable new tools and ideas to help them in their clinical work. “

- The trainer was excellent- well-informed, personable, and engaging
- Some of the legal and health-related information in the training was completely new to me.
- I appreciated her authenticity.
- The presenter is very knowledgeable.
- Materials were very clean, clear and not intimidating
“Dr. Jones presented a presentation to our WISE Coalition virtually. It was engaging, informative, and very well received.” – Alison Wolf

“Dr. Jones shared about the importance of culturally inclusive practices to including family in substance use treatment for adolescents. For many people, the family goes beyond the traditional nuclear family unit of Mom, Dad, and siblings, and it’s important to consider this when working with young people on who they want to support their treatment. She also shared common barriers to including family meaningfully and ways to address them and build connections and communication between young people and the important adults in their lives. An example is reconsidering abstinence-only approaches (‘not in my house’) which can shut down honest communication.” – HRiA Team Member | Workshop Participant
“Her presentation and ideas were honest and practical, giving providers, parents and families some clear strategies that were integrated with both harm reduction and youth development approaches.” – HRiA Team Member | Workshop Participant

“I sought Steady initially for co-leadership consultation but after meeting with Steady and my co-director of my department a solo coaching plan was deemed an option and perhaps more helpful for me as an individual (after my co-lead decided to opt-out). I met with Steady for 2 sessions (including 1 ad hoc service as an option) and was able to get validation for my experience which was quite pivotal for me. Over the course of meeting with Steady, I received advice, coaching, and support and was able to redirect my focus away from unhealthy patterns of relating with my co-lead and turn that energy toward my individual professional and personal development. Since starting with Steady, my personal/professional boundaries at my job are more defined and my professional goals with my current job/organization have also gone through a shift that has been incredibly helpful for me. I now have a new perspective and plan that will support me as long as I remain at my current job. I have also been able to research, interview, and plan for supplemental income/starting a new professional venture that has helped me to find hope and a sense of renewal in my career development. Being a woman of color in leadership, it is incredibly powerful to undergo a support plan with another woman of color in leadership. There are dynamics and learning that does not need to be explained and that is healing in itself. Black women supporting black women is what we need more of moving into the future.”

“Consultation with Dr.Jones made a huge difference for me when I started my independent therapy practice. Dr.Jones possesses a stellar combination of clinical expertise and keen business sense that proved to be the ideal combination to meet my needs. She brings warmth and genuineness to each interaction and excels at creating a safe space in which to discuss challenges and creatively problem-solve. She always knows exactly when to push me a little outside of my comfort zone to help me grow!”

“I was able to consult with Dr. Gabrielle Jones on several projects. When I started my position as the Inaugural Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, not only did she show me many tricks of the trade, but she helped me navigate the organization’s internal processes. I’ve had the pleasure of working with many professionals in my line of work, but Dr. Jones is someone who I will always remember fondly. I learned a lot from Dr. Jones. She’s always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needs it. Watching her adapt to the ever-changing business landscape was an inspiration! Her ability to overcome challenges with a smile made her stand out as a cut above the rest! Anyone would be lucky to have the due-diligence of Dr. Jones on their side!”
